Outdoor apparel brand Kathmandu has launched world’s first all-weather, all-terrain wedding dress. Designed with protection, adaptability and elegance in mind, the Wedding Dress can convert into a travel-size backpack. The dress is an outcome of collaboration between Kathmandu, New Zealand fashion designer Tanya Carlson and Gore-Tex fabric.
Carlson is known for her romantic, timeless silhouettes. Now, she’s breaking new ground in outdoor couture; draping seven metres of Gore-Tex fabric in one continuous line, Kathmandu said in a press release.
"We kept the design simple, elegant and understated, to really let the Gore-Tex fabric shine. A bride wearing the Adapt Wedding Dress can let her sense of adventure run free," said Carlson.

Inspired by many of Carlson’s recent Demi-Couture and wedding gowns plus the cleanly-angled mountains from the familiar Kathmandu logo, the dress uses seven metres fabric cut and draped in a continuous line to create a classic Carlson silhouette with minimal seams. Inside, the gown is lined in fine blue merino wool.
The one-of-a-kind gown features a Pack&Go solution, allowing the dress to cleverly pack down into a travel-size bag, the release added. There are large storage pockets inside the dress also allow the bride to carry flowers, first-aid kits or bottles of water and internal zips that transform the length of the dress, taking the bride from alter to first waltz with ease and style.
“When someone is wearing Kathmandu, we want them to feel prepared to take on any adventure” said Ben Ryan, Kathmandu general manager – product. (RR)
