With an aim to go beyond academics, Surat-based Institute of Design & Technology (IDT) recently organised an industrial visit for its Fashion Designing students, who were taken to the Textiles Research and Development Centre (TRADC) of Birla Cellulose. From spinning to lab testing, TRADC has brought constant innovations to the textile value chain.
Birla Cellulose offers the finest range of soft-flowing, nature-based and man-made fibres that are best suited for apparel and home textile applications. The IDT students updated their knowledge about the term ‘wet processing’ and also learnt about fibres being used in their 100 per cent natural form, as well as in blends with all natural and synthetic fibres like cotton, polyester, acrylic, wood and silk.
Around 50 students who formed part of the visit got hands-on experience of the process, specifically various types of fabric construction. They were able to analyse the mechanism of basic fabric construction with a live and practical approach.

During their visit, students interacted with manufacturing personnel and coordinators at TRADC, who guided them about the application of different range of biodegradable fibres (viscose, modal, etc) that are processed at Birla Cellulose.
From vibrant partywear to elegant formal workwear (both men and women), Birla Cellulose promises to add new levels of comfort and style to life with its softness, fluidity and lustre.
Each student gained a good practical exposure on apparel product development process with all the implications and opportunities, which fulfils IDT’s motive behind organising such visits. (RKS)
