An expectant mother must take good care of herself to ensure that she gives birth to a healthy baby. Your newborn baby will need several items once he or she is born, so being prepared ahead of time is very important. Having a baby is a very joyful time and can sometimes be stressful too. You can avoid some of the stress if you are well prepared for your baby’s arrival into the world.

You should have a crib, playpen, stroller, high chair and a changing table available as these are basic essentials new parents will need. Once those items are purchased you can focus on buying clothing for your infant. You will need several cotton one piece for your baby and several baby blankets and a few bibs. Your baby will no doubt need to have his clothes changed often as he will be spitting up and drooling quite a bit, as all babies do. So, it is a great idea to have a lot of these items available so you are not doing laundry all day long.

Another very important item you should have is a proper baby seat for your vehicle. Be sure to purchase a car seat that is approved to meet all federal safety standards. Choosing a good baby car seat can be confusing but you can read customer reviews on consumer websites to guide you in making the right choice.

Be sure that you have enough baby bottles on hand as well as nipples for the bottle if you are bottle feeding your infant. It is also important to purchase a baby bathtub. Choose one that has a nice soft sponge lining. All baby stores and baby shops carry most of the items you will need, so you can do ‘one stop shopping’ for all of your baby needs.

Pick up a pacifier or two at the baby store. They can come in handy as they can be very soothing for a fussy baby.

You will need diapers and lots of them! You must decide if you are going to use cloth diapers or disposables. The disposables are very convenient, but they will cost you more money. If you buy cloth diapers and wash them yourself, you will save a lot of money, but lose the convenience factor.

If you are unsure of what items you will need for your baby, simply ask a mother who has small kids-she will no doubt guide you in the right direction.
